A Cambria County man is behind bars after robbing a local convenience store at gunpoint last month, police said.

According to a criminal complaint, police were called for a reported robbery with a weapon at the 7-Eleven on Fairfield Avenue in Johnstown on July 12.

Police said they were advised that a male had walked into the store, displayed a firearm, removed approximately $55 from the cash register and took a pack of cigars before fleeing the store towards J Street.

The criminal complaint states that they reviewed security footage and observed a man, later identified as Raymond Rosa-Malave, 33, wearing a gray hoodie, black mask and black shorts, arrive at the store on a blue bicycle.

According to police, they observed Rosa-Malave walk around the store for several minutes before approaching the counter and remove a firearm from his pocket, pointing it at the cashier.

The criminal complaint states that Rosa-Malave then ordered the cashier to remove money from the register before exiting the store.

Police said they spoke with the cashier who told them that she recognized Rosa-Malave as he had been to the store several times before.

According to the criminal complaint, the next day, police responded to a reported robbery with a weapon at the Family Dollar on Bedford Street.

Police said the suspect, identified as Rosa-Malave, displayed a weapon and demanded money from the cash register before fleeing the scene on a bicycle.

The criminal complaint states that Rosa-Malave was then taken into custody where he admitted to the robbery.

According to police, the cashier from the 7-Eleven robbery was able to positively identify Rosa-Malave as the suspect in the robbery from the day before.

Online court dockets show that Rosa-Malave faces one felony count of robbery with threat of immediate serious injury, one felony count of robbery with committing threats of the first or second degree felony, one count of theft by unlawful taking, one count of receiving stolen property and one count of recklessly endangering another person.

Court dockets also show that Rosa-Malave is currently being held at the Cambria County Prison with a preliminary hearing scheduled for August 15.
